A Greener View

The little Mantis Tiller is a great tool for gardeners. It will easily mix a garden soil that was used as a garden in the past. It is advertised that it will break new ground for a garden through existing sod and compacted soil, but I have not had great luck with that, but on an existing garden this light weight tiller is excellent. It has always started easily and the handles fold in half so I can carry it in the trunk of my car and take it to use on my parents garden. When it is running, it is easy to handle. As you drag it backwards through the garden soil, it chews its way downward to get a good mix at a deeper depth.   

In the garden pictures that follow you can see a garden that had a newspaper mulch the previous summer. After some decay over the winter, the garden was ready to be tilled in the spring. The Mantis Tiller chewed through most of the paper and only occasionally had to be cleaned out of wads of un-decayed paper. After tilling, a quick raking of larger pieces of paper quickly cleaned up the garden for planting
